Data Insight of South Maharastra’s Flood Situation

Background

In 2019, we witnessed serious problems caused by the flood in some districts of Maharashtra. The flood in five districts of Western Maharashtra affected over 4.24 hundred thousand people. About 4,00,000 people were evacuated and 30 people died in the rain-related incidents. This disaster affects people’s and animal’s life and economic losses. Every year lots of data released regarding rainfall, fluctuations in river water level, etc. That data should be used to solve and reconstruct flood management issues and policies. Some government organizations or private institutions run programs in flood-affected areas to give hands to affected people and to help them. So by using the available data, we can make a model that helps us to improve flood management and minimize flood risk.

Challenges

  • Collection of all parameters data which is mainly responsible to flood.
  • Convert all unstructured data in well structured format.
  • Apply different visualizations and time series analysis on data to find hidden pattern from it.

Solutions

we collected data from various sources. The data which is collected may contain duplicate records, white spaces, or errors. Before goes to data analysis the data must be cleaned and error-free. Once we collect data, move to process or organized collected data must be for Analysis.
